Canine Summer
Lorne's mother, Bernice, and aunt, Marilyn, flew up for a 2-night visit so they could see their cousin Paul Bliss perform as a member of the Moody Blues. Bernice had taken Leo for us until Lorne went to NB last summer and got him so it's been a full year since she's seen him.

I went to visit Karen, Kyle and canine company.
This is Harley girl who I've known since 1996:
And this is Emme, Karen's and Kyle's new puppy:
Harley isn't doing very well these days. She was diagnosed with cancer in May but has lived several weeks longer than was expected. She has good days and bad. I had to go see ol' Harley girl for what may have been the last time:

Rex sleeps on Brittany's bed often... probably more than she does.
All 3 dogs have made claim to Brittany's bed:
Today, they decide to wrestle on the bed:
Just one more night in Pickering.... Then the dogs get to check out their new back yard and neighbours.
The dogs will be with us on our last trip to Oshawa. Then they'll then be our Oshawa Pets....

Worf & Dax (Bonnie's dogs)
Worf was born on November 14, 2007 and died September 28, 2007.
He was a tri-colour pure bred border collie and was registered in two registries. The "American-International Border Collie Registry Inc." and the "American Border Collie Association, Inc."
Worf had hip problems and although he had medication that made him feel good and did not live with any pain, the medication affected him in other ways and died of a stroke.
Dax still lives on the hobby farm with Bonnie's tamed feral cat. :)

Introductions, please
First, Sammy came along. A male (neutered) white miniature poodle born May 19, 1992. He was abused by previous people then my mother-in-law rescued him. Christmas 1997 Lorne and I had finished visiting family and were heading back to Ontario. Bernice asked if we'd drop in again on the way by. It was late but she had made us dinner so we took the detour off the highway. She surprised us with "Benji" who we later renamed to Sam. He was more of a shaggy puffball than he is now but he had had a fresh bath and was ready for a road trip. Funny enough we had that adventure but we were also taking our friend Wayne and his husky dog Dusty back with us so in our 2-door Neon was the 3 of us and these 2 dogs. Dusty was still a puppy; Sammy was more than 5 years old and became territorial of us very quickly. It was an interesting 12-hour winter car ride.
This is Sammy after a professional grooming:
In April 2008, I took an 8-week dog groomer course with Sammy. Each week I'd learn to groom something new (poodles were perfect candidates for this class). Sammy was still shaggy from winter. One week I trimmed his body. Then another week his legs, tail. Another week his head, feet, etc. By the end of it, he was finished and had loved every minute of it.
Christmas 2000, this is Ben and Lorne with Sammy the reindeer at my parents place.
Today, Sammy is mostly blind in one eye and doesn't like for anyone to touch him much in that area, including getting his face trimmed so it is always a bit of a chore now. But otherwise, he is still pretty good and loves his baths. He is fairly mobile but he stopped climbing the stairs over wintertime this year.
Below is Sammy in more recent days.
Second, came along Bailey. It was March 2002 and Lorne was taking me to some strange people's place in Orangeville on a Sunday evening. We brought Sammy which was cool because these people, Levite and Lisa Cassista, had dogs too. One of which was also a white, male poodle. Bailey and Sammy got along quite well and it was fun to see them interact. Sammy would have been almost 10 years old at the time and Bailey was only 10 months! At the end of the visit, Lorne said something vague which I questioned. It ended up that we were taking Bailey home with us! I was *so* excited. I could barely bring myself to go to work the next day but at least the poodles gave each other company. :)
Here's our beautiful Bailey, our posing poodle born May 9, 2001:
Here they are, both freshly groomed in 2002:
Our mellow little Bailey who never did come to lick our faces. That is just his way but he is still a really sweet dog. I took him to obedience training - twice, just because we both had so much fun - and he passed with flying colours. He continues to be a well-trained dog so often goes off-leash as he does extremely well with voice commands.
We were renting a house when we first got Bailey but a couple years later we moved into a condo. I always thought they both did well in the city, walking on leash, on sidewalks and what not. The thing with being in a condo is that we were forced to take them out for walks. Here are Sammy and Bailey at the condo.
Here is Sam and Bailey in more recent days. They are good brothers; they love each other. Here Sam is interested in Bailey but every morning Bailey will go over to Sam and sniff him out. :)
If any one of the dogs cannot be found at your feet, the couch is always a good place to start looking for them.
Here Lorne is grooming Bailey. Their hair grows so quickly and at $35+ per dog per session, we often trim them ourselves in between shavings.
Third, came along Rex. He is a Beagle, miniature Pinscher, something-something mix. We'll call him a Heinz 57... and a great mutt! He came when Brittany came to live with us April 7, 2007. Sammy was a little offish with him initially but they are fine now. Rex and Bailey got along pretty good from the start. With Sammy slowing down, Bailey found a new playmate in Rex. Here is Rex, our typical outdoor-lovin' doogie born September 6, 2005.
Rex in a temporary cast until surgery after I accidentally broke his leg one Friday evening in June 2008. It's a really stupid story and an even more expensive mistake. We'll leave it at... if you want something done right, just do it yourself.
Rex was being pampered with house coats and pillows but since he wasn't using them Bailey thought he'd make the most out of it.

Fourth, and last but not least, Leo came along. Born January 3, 2008 he was only 7+ months when Lorne drove to NB and retrieve him... again, from our mother-in-law, who again got him from the Cassista's who have not yet learned they shouldn't get another dog if they aren't going to be able to care for it. Ugh! In any case, Bernice called to tell me about this beautiful little Shih-tzu who is a bundle of energy. I couldn't resist and for some reason Lorne agreed to take him. I guess he figured with Sammy getting up there in age, he would be a replacement. He couldn't have turned out to be a more lovable little doggy.
Leo's hair was lovely but so matted plus it was humid in August so we got it shaved ALL off. I also got him neutered in September. It stopped him from humping the other dogs but didn't really slow him down much.
Here Leo's hair has grown out some; isn't he the cutest?!
Our Four Dogs - Sammy, Leo, Rex and Bailey:
Leo, Bailey and Rex - the active dogs. Sammy can't jump up on the couch and besides walking around for a little while when I'm home, he is usually just sleeping upstairs near my bed.
Christmas 2008, Rex with Brittany, Bailey with Lorne and Leo with Roz (Ben and Sammy are missing in action):
Christmas 2008, pose #2:
Rex & Leo rough-housing. It is most often Leo playing with Rex but even Rex gets tired of it and he'll tag team with Bailey. Leo will continually go back and forth from Rex to Bailey. Leo is a great playmate for Rex, who is more playful than Bailey and loves to go outside. Leo will follow Rex everywhere he goes. Rex got a plate and 5 screws put in to fix his front left leg and other than him licking it awhile it hasn't slowed him down. He will jump onto his front legs and everything. Yay, veterinarian medicine!
Rex & Leo stopping their rough-housing to pose for a picture:
Leo, Bailey & Sammy - the white dogs, in the kitchen. I managed to get Leo and Bailey to "sit" but Sammy is too curious and is heading toward me. :) He's pretty good for a blind dog. He can find food or free rubs from people no problem.
Lorne's mother (Bernice) and aunt (Marilyn) flew up for a quick 2-night visit to see their cousin Paul Bliss of the Moody Blues perform in Toronto. They got to see Leo after 1 full year of giving him to us.
